  What's New
               and what's coming soon...

August 2012

Life gets in the way of website updates and once again it's been over twelve months since I've written here. This has been due to the large amount of work I've been doing on several very exciting projects both in the field of Educational writing and the mainstream Trade market, as well as exploring the e-book market.

Sometimes it would be nice to be able to clone myself as there are never enough hours in the day to do all I want and write all I want. My house and garden are slowly beginning to take shape, my dogs are all working well and enjoying life, and a quiet day at home is still mostly unheard of!

In Educational Publishing, I have recently worked on two levels, on two successive occasions, of Cengage Learning's fantastic series for Middle and Upper Primary readers, Nelson Literary Directions. Presented in card files, these high quality snapshots of information on various topics showcase a range of text types, formats etc. and are proving hugely popular.

I have also been working very hard on a Young Adult novel whose characters are very close to my heart and this involved some months of intense writing. I'm pleased to say it is finished now and a second novel with the same characters is now in the planning stages. It's been one of the most challenging writing projects I've ever undertaken and also one of the most rewarding. As well as this novel, with the working title of Fergus and Jazz, I've completed four whacky, spooky novels in a series for younger readers and they are now ready to go.

It's with great excitement that I can now announce I've been signed by the wonderful Rick Raftos Management Agency in Sydney, Australia and Anjannette Porter is representing me with these novels and my other work. I look forward to a long and happy association with the agency, which represents so many amazing authors, screenwriters, directors etc. I feel honoured to be in such company!

You can now find me on facebook, both at my author page and my personal page I tend to update my facebook author page far more regularly than my website and I also fairly regularly post essays on bits and pieces of life I see around me, and thoughts I have, which some may find interesting to read. You are welcome to friend me on facebook if you wish, to keep up with what I am working on and please Like my author page!

The new frontier of electronic books - though it is not so new now and in fact is becoming as commonplace as the hard copy book - is one that fascinates me and provides a great opportunity for readers to acquire good reads at very little cost compared to paper books, provided they have access to an e-reader. With this in mind I have begun to publish some electronic books at a next to nothing cost or for free, to establish myself in this market. Hence I will not be placing free stories here on my website at future dates. You will be able to access them free or for small charge (there are both) at the Smashwords website, internationally known as one of the best places to bring authors and readers together electronically at very little or no cost. Currently I have placed one title for children, The Weezlegog, at Smashwords www.smashwords.com and two more, Sigmunds Sandwich and The Perfect Pizza, are shortly to follow. They will be available from Smashwords at no charge for a few months, initially. I believe this helps people who are new to e-reading to find authors and stories they like and enter the e-book world.

I'll try hard to update this website more often! Until next time...
